Cquential CEO, Steve Mallaby explains why a local South African company is selected for use on a global scale
It is well-established that SA produces great global businesses and has great technology skills sets, yet we still need to do more. If anything we may have been remiss in not sharing enough of the successes that have been achieved.
We are extremely well positioned to compete on a global scale and with specific factors being an advantage.
We appreciate the fact that education levels in developing markets lag those of 1st world countries, and the skills sets of warehouse operators on the floor may not be at the same level. We have the advantage of this knowledge and have focused on simplicity when developing our systems. This is a key advantage.
The other appealing aspect of WMS for Cquential is that it is a system that can easily be ‘exported’. Unlike for example a payroll system which has to cater for many unique country specific requirements such as multiple tax rules. WMS is easily exportable as we do not have the same extent of challenges with having to ‘localise’ the software.
The other more obvious advantage is that we are able to offer much more cost effective solutions. The cost of resources and licences are significantly lower.
The advent of the cloud has removed the geographical territorial barriers that traditionally impeded our entry to other markets.
Would you leave millions of Rands lying around without security?
Traditionally businesses focused on revenue issues when trying to achieve growth and compete, however, there is increasingly more emphasis on examining the upstream supply chain, not just as and a means of reducing costs and therefore improving margin, but rather viewing it as a strategic asset.
If one had a stock pile of cash, one would take many measures to secure that cash, as has been done with many disruptive technologies arising to offer solutions. Inventory should be no different. Technology also offers great solutions / options for the supply chain.
