Prasa takes legal action against government

The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) is suing the Department of Public Works for the sum of R26 million due to unpaid invoices for work carried out in 2007 and 2008.

In a letter written to Minister of Public Works Thulas Nxesi, Prasa CEO Lucky Montana said Intersite - Prasa’s property management company - had a contract to do an audit of the department’s property portfolio.

Prasa sent the department an invoice for R26 million in October 2008 and has yet to receive payment.

Earlier this year, the department declared the contract null and void which prompted Mr Montana to send the letter to Nxesi.

Mandisa Fatyela-Lindie, acting DPW director general, said she could not respond to a set of detailed questions.

“The department can’t react because the matter is sub judice,” Fatyela-Lindie said.
